Tragic High-Speed Crash Claims Life of Hustontown Man
The quiet afternoon in Dublin Township was shattered on Sunday, May 3rd, when a violent single-vehicle accident resulted in a fatality and a brush fire. State Police investigators believe that excessive speed was a primary factor in the devastating sequence of events.
The Incident
At approximately 3:48 PM, a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling along N Clear Ridge Road (PA-475) near the intersection of Cole Road. As the vehicle approached a curve in the roadway, the driver failed to maintain control.
The Jetta spun 90 degrees, careening off the pavement and onto the east berm. The momentum carried the car directly into a utility pole. The impact was so severe that the rear driver’s side door “wrapped” around the pole, while the force of the collision wrenched the front driver’s side door open.
Chain of Events
- Ejection: As the car continued its violent spin, the driver was thrown from the open door. The vehicle finally came to a rest in the front yard of a nearby residence.
- Fire & Destruction: The utility pole was sheared off completely. Immediately following the impact, the Volkswagen burst into flames.
- Spread: The fire quickly spread from the wreckage to the downed telephone pole and ignited a portion of the adjacent wooded area.
Emergency Response
First responders from Hustontown Fire and EMS arrived on the scene rapidly. Firefighters managed to extinguish the car and brush fires before they could spread further to the residential property. Despite immediate medical intervention and first aid provided by the crew, the driver succumbed to his injuries.
