Young Farmington Couple Killed in Highway 160 Crash; 5-Year-Old Daughter Miraculously Survives

A tragic accident just outside of Bayfield, Colorado, has claimed the lives of two young parents. Their vehicle, an older blue Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, was discovered Saturday afternoon approximately 40 feet down an embankment.

The La Plata County Coroner has officially identified the deceased individuals:

  • Devante Griffon (25): A resident of Farmington who was found dead at the scene.
  • Klariza Tarango (24): A resident of Farmington who was found dead at the scene.
  • Kayce Griffon (5): The couple’s daughter, who was found with only minor injuries. She was treated at Mercy Hospital and has since been released into the care of her grandfather.

  • Primary Location: The crash occurred on the south side of U.S. Highway 160, situated just east of the Bayfield town limits.
  • Discovery: While authorities were officially notified at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, witnesses reported seeing the flipped vehicle as early as Friday.
