Tragedy in Big Bear Lake Two Community Volunteers Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver
Big Bear Lake, CA – heartbroken community is mourning the loss of two local women after a devastating collision involving a suspected DUI driver earlier this week. Authorities and loved ones have identified the victims as Sandra Senft (64) and Kathy Greenwood (85), both residents of Big Bear Lake.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, May 4, at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Big Bear Boulevard and Cienega Road. The women were reportedly dedicated volunteers performing a final act of service, making deliveries for a local Meals on Wheels program at the time of the impact.
Details of the Collision
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the victims were passengers in a Subaru Crosstrek traveling west on Big Bear Boulevard. A Ford Super Duty pickup, driven by Matthew James Clark (52) of Oxnard, was heading south on Cienega Road when he allegedly ran a stop sign and slammed into the passenger side of the Subaru.

- The driver of the Subaru, Kelly Satterfield (Greenwood’s daughter), remains in critical condition fighting for her recovery.
The driver of the truck, Matthew James Clark, sustained minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury and death and was released the following day after posting $250,000 bail.

In the wake of this senseless tragedy, an outpouring of support has flooded in for the families. A memorial fundraiser organized by Kathy’s son, Michael Greenwood, has already raised over $35,000 in just three days to assist with Kelly’s medical bills, rehabilitation, and upcoming legal expenses as they seek justice.
“The shock and pain of losing my mother so suddenly is overwhelming,” Michael Greenwood wrote. “Our family was forever changed.”
