A heartbreaking accident on the interstate claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman early Wednesday morning, April 29, leaving the local community in mourning.
The Incident
Just before 2:30 a.m., tragedy struck the westbound entrance ramp of I-12. According to Walker Police Chief David Addison, Elizabeth Ellen Woodruff of Ponchatoula was merging onto the interstate when she lost control of her Chevrolet Impala.
The vehicle drifted off the roadway and collided violently with a light pole, sustaining massive damage in the impact.
Emergency Response
First responders from Acadian Ambulance rushed Woodruff to a nearby hospital, but despite their best efforts, she was tragically pronounced dead. Police confirmed that Woodruff was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
A Somber Reflection
The loss has deeply affected the local department and the Ponchatoula community. Chief Addison shared a poignant reminder of the gravity of the situation:
“Any time someone is killed in a car accident, it’s a tragedy. That’s particularly true when the victim is a young person with their whole life in front of them.”
Investigation Ongoin
The Walker Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. As the community remembers Elizabeth, officials urge drivers to exercise extreme caution during late-night travel.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends during this time of tragic loss. We stand with our community in offering our sincere thoughts and prayers to all those affected.
