HOUSTON, TX – Thursday, April 30, 2026 – Houston commuters are facing a difficult evening drive as emergency crews respond to two separate major accidents on opposite sides of the city.
The incidents, reported at the IH-610 West Loop and Eldridge Parkway, have triggered significant delays and lane closures during the peak of the afternoon rush hour.
Multi-Vehicle Collision on IH-610 West Loop at Richmond Ave
At approximately 6:11 PM, Houston TranStar verified a major accident on the IH-610 West Loop Northbound at Richmond Avenue.
Initial reports indicate that at least two vehicles were involved in the collision. The impact has forced the closure of the right lane and right shoulder, causing a massive bottleneck for drivers heading toward the Uptown/Galleria area.

Major Crash at 1531 Eldridge Parkway
Simultaneously, first responders are on the scene of a serious accident in West Houston. The incident occurred at 1531 Eldridge Parkway near Olive Hill Drive (just south of Briar Forest Drive) at 5:46 PM.
The Houston Police Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have classified this as a Major Accident. While the number of injuries has not yet been confirmed, the location—a busy commercial and residential corridor—has been partially blocked as authorities conduct their investigation and clear wreckage.

With both the West Loop and Eldridge Parkway seeing heavy volume, officials recommend the following detours:
- For the West Loop (610): Utilize Post Oak Boulevard or Newcastle Drive as surface street alternatives to bypass the Richmond Avenue congestion.
- For Eldridge Parkway: Consider using Highway 6 or Dairy Ashford Road to travel north-south through the West Oaks/Energy Corridor area.
