Heartbreak at K-State: 19-Year-Old Student Dies After Tragic Fall from Fraternity House Window
MANHATTAN, KS — The Kansas State University community is cloaked in mourning following the devastating loss of Jack Fleischaker, a 19-year-old student whose life was cut short after a horrific accident over the weekend.
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning. At approximately 3:15 a.m., Riley County police rushed to the Sigma Chi fraternity house in response to an urgent medical-assist call. Authorities discovered that Fleischaker had fallen from a second-story window, sustaining catastrophic injuries upon impact.
A Fight for Life Ends in Tragedy
For three days, the freshman battled for his life in a hospital bed. However, the traumatic brain injury proved too severe. On Tuesday, the family’s pastor, Rev. Gar Demo of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, confirmed the news that no parent ever wants to hear: Jack did not survive.
“This is a tragic accident that nobody anticipated,” Rev. Demo shared in a somber reflection. “Every trajectory in their life has changed in an instant.”
A History of Unthinkable Loss
The Fleischaker family is no stranger to the weight of profound grief. In a heartbreaking parallel, Rev. Demo revealed that 13 years ago, Jack’s older sister, Natalie, passed away due to a brain tumor.
“I was with them when Natalie passed away… We walk with our faith and surround them with the love that we can share,” Demo said, noting the incredible strength shown by Jack’s friends and the fraternity brothers who have stood vigil throughout the ordeal.
University and Community in Mourning
Jack is survived by his parents, Stephen and Ashley, and his twin sister, Emily. His death has sent shockwaves through the Manhattan campus, prompting Kansas State University to issue a statement of support. The university is currently providing grief counseling and mental health resources to the members of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the wider student body as they grapple with the sudden loss of a peer.
As the K-State family gathers to remember a life full of promise, the tragedy serves as a harrowing reminder of how quickly a “normal” college weekend can turn into a permanent loss. Details regarding a memorial service have not yet been released.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends during this time of tragic loss. We stand with our community in offering our sincere thoughts and prayers to all those affected.
