Authorities Identify Pedestrian Killed in East Nashville Semi-Truck Accident
NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Nashville investigators have released the identity of a pedestrian who lost his life following a tragic encounter with a tractor-trailer on the afternoon of Monday, May 4.
The fatal incident occurred at the busy intersection of East Trinity Lane and Gallatin Pike in East Nashville. According to the official crash report, a semi-truck was heading eastbound on East Trinity Lane and was in the process of executing a right-hand turn onto Gallatin Pike.
At the same time, the victim, identified as Billy Ray Swaner of Nashville, emerged from behind a building and moved toward the sidewalk. Investigators state that Billy Ray Swaner appeared to lose his footing, stumbling and falling directly into the path of the moving vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the collision, but the injuries sustained were fatal. Preliminary evidence suggests the driver of the truck was following the flow of traffic and may not have been able to see the pedestrian fall into the roadway in time to stop.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities finalize their report on the circumstances surrounding the fall.
