A worker involved in the stage construction for Shakira’s upcoming concert in Brazil has died following a tragic accident over the weekend.
The victim has been identified as Gabriel de Jesus Firmino. The incident occurred on Sunday, just six days before the “Todo Mundo no Rio” performance, and was confirmed by event organizers who stated that the accident “tragically claimed the life of a professional.” In their official statement, organizers expressed their commitment to providing “all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team and the victim’s family.”
According to the state fire brigade, Gabriel suffered “crushing injuries to his lower limbs” involving a lifting system. Fellow employees managed to remove him from the machinery before emergency responders arrived.
Military personnel from the 3rd Maritime Group provided immediate pre-hospital care at the scene before Gabriel was transported to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. Despite the rapid response and medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Witness Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos described the scene, noting that Gabriel was “trapped underneath” a structure that had fallen to the ground. Another witness reported seeing people rush to the site “out of nowhere” to assist in pulling him out from the wreckage.
