Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Millboro man on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 28. The crash occurred in a rural stretch of Augusta County, resulting in a direct impact with a tree.

According to an official press release from the State Police, the incident took place shortly after 4:00 p.m. The crash was concentrated in the 800 block of Little Calf Pasture Highway (Route 42).
Sequence of Events
Preliminary findings by investigators outline the following chain of events:
- The Vehicle: A 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 was traveling along Route 42.
- The Deviation: For reasons still under investigation, the heavy-duty pickup truck crossed over the double solid centerline of the highway.
- The Impact: After crossing into the opposing lane, the vehicle veered left off the roadway and collided head-on with a tree.

Tragically, Larry W. Melton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. State Police confirmed that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
